Date: April 6, 2012. More than 600000 Mac Computers were left vulnerable to security hacks. And I wouldn’t just limit this attack to Apple Operating Systems since they are reported to using social networks, especially facebook to spread it by getting people to click on the link. SO now your computer gets infected with a backdoor flash virus that could potentially lock up your computer, wipe out your information, or delete essential files so you can’t get back in & have to re-install your windows causing you to lose everything. SO BACK UP YOUR STUFF! And don’t have your external storage device plugged in when you’re on facebook or any other risky site either. PLUS, those links sent to you on social network sites for a free whatever or vote for whomever, especially on FB that YOUR friend or contact wouldn’t really send, don’t click on it. ALSO, I would extend my 2 cents to avoid installing Adobe Flash player since I suspect that it is a culprit in messing up your PC. To view PDFs/Videos, etc. use a free pdf viewer & use browsers like Google Chrome or Rockmelt that has its own internal flash to protect your computer. Don’s stay logged into FB & other sites like that too long since a virus (they may be pumping to target certain somebodies since it has been exposed as a CIA site) can sneak in. Have a few excellent & up-to-date anti-virus/spyware software & run atleast a quick scan before you shut down the computer each day …
Bad news Mac lovers: even you can get malware, and you might already have it. A new report from a Russian security firm says over half a million Apple computers have been infected with the Flashback Trojan, a virus that turns their computer into part of a controllable botnet. And over half of the infected computers are reportedly in the US The malware was first detected last year, disguised as a Flash Player update. It later messed with Java programming language, installing code from sites without the owners’ permission. Apple has finally released a new security update that should help fight the virus if your computer has it. Unfortunately, it may be time for Mac users to stop bragging that they can’t get viruses. And time for them to finally run that pesky software update!
STEP 1: Back Up Documents, Photos and Videos. Save your important data to an external drive. Be sure to scan this drive and its contents after you remove the virus; you don’t want to re-infect your computer after the clean-up. STEP 2: Reboot in Safe Mode You have to prevent the virus from running when you try to remove it. To do this, reboot in safe mode. Safe mode runs only the Windows operating system and a few key programs. It’s a way to limit any malware from launching. Restart your computer and hit the F8 key on the keyboard repeatedly until you get to a black screen with the option of restarting in Safe Mode. Choose “Safe Mode with Networking” so that you can still get on the Internet. STEP 3: Download Virus Scanner/Removal Tools I recommend downloading two to three different programs to find and remove the malware. One may do the job, but three will almost certainly do the job. These three have worked for me and come highly recommended by PC Magazine and CNET: STEP 4: Run Virus Scanners Download, double-click to install, accept all the defaults they recommend, and then run each. This will take a while. When the programs locate a virus or any suspicious items, allow the programs to delete the files. STEP 5: Reboot Normally Reboot your computer normally; no need for safe mode. You should be back to normal now. If you have files backed up on an external drive, plug it in and use the security programs you downloaded to scan that drive before you open or transfer any …
