View in full screen at 720p. A security hole makes it possible to gain unauthorized access to the authentication app USI use to communicate with Edugate, as part of their online voting system in the USI Fees Preferendum. Update: On twitter, the USI President said that this was an ‘old test site’ and would be ‘taken down for clarity’. It’s not an old test site, and it’s still up – twitter.com USI have said that this is only one of three “modules” in the voting system. That’s true, but the problem is that they’re all vulnerable – stay tuned. Is USIs Online Fess Preferendum secure? In other news, USi have admitted that non-students have been able to vote – www.youtube.com …and UCDSU is over €1 miilion in debt, but Gary Redmond claims he kew nothing about it during his 2 years as a sabbatical officer – www.collegetribune.ie

Tata Communications – Virtual Proxy Service http://managedsecurityservices.org/tata-communications-virtual-proxy-service http://managedsecurityservices.org/tata-communications-virtual-proxy-service#comments Fri, 18 May 2012 14:07:55 +0000 http://managedsecurityservices.org/tata-communications-virtual-proxy-service

Every time someone in your organization clicks on a message or checks their Facebook account, there is a security risk. And that risk is growing. Modern security threats constantly find their way around, over and through traditional firewall defences. And now Web 2.0 apps are becoming a popular security target. End-users reach out from their devices through corporate networks as well as over the open internet to access a variety of applications. Unprotected, these flows are exposed to application level security risks. Tata Communications offers a Virtual Proxy Service that can be inserted into the application traffic flow to deeply inspect and cleanse all of this traffic. The virtual Proxy services portfolio includes a wide range of protective services such as anti-virus, web 2.0 controls, URL filtering, bandwidth control and data loss prevention. Organizations can precisely determine who has access to what, with as much granularity as they want to specify through an administration portal. Tata Communications Virtual Proxy Service makes it easy for your employees to be doing the right things safely while keeping their organization’s security policy intact. Contact Tata Communications at www.TataCommunications.com for more information about the Virtual Proxy Service.

Attack of the Drones – USA http://managedsecurityservices.org/attack-of-the-drones-usa http://managedsecurityservices.org/attack-of-the-drones-usa#comments Fri, 18 May 2012 09:19:58 +0000 http://managedsecurityservices.org/attack-of-the-drones-usa

Iran claims to have reverse engineered US drone To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com They can move together in swarms, build towers, dance, throw and catch, assess targets and soon will even make their own decisions. Both in war and at home, drones are developing fast and gaining control. The screens at a US air force base lock onto a civilian car driving along a road in New Mexico. “We don’t simulate or actually engage them, it is just training to follow a moving target.” The question, “with their permission?” is met with an embarrassed pause and the faltering reply, “we’re just following them with a camera”. Rapidly becoming acceptable practice, increasingly police are also using drones to survey civilian areas for criminals. The US air force are now training more ‘desk pilots’ than traditional pilots, raising concerns that war is becoming “just a big computer game”, allowing pilots to kill a few Taliban fighters and then go home for dinner. Nathan Wessler, a civil rights lawyer, strongly argues that the US using drones to kill targets in countries like Yemen despite not being in a state of war with them could lead to serious repercussions. “It is really a dangerous precedent. The technology of drones is not that complicated and there are dozens of nations developing it.” And these robots are advancing. Future drones will be able to independently find targets and decide to attack. As Iran lays its hands on a US spy
