To answer your question literally would take a book–or a very large web site.

Like download.com or majorgeeks.com. Check them out.

My preferences (for personal use; free):

Zone Alarm (firewall)

AVG Free (anti-virus)

Ad-Aware and Spybot (spyware protection).

There are many others.

COMPUTER ViRUS????

Question by some dude: COMPUTER ViRUS????
I have SOMETHING wrong with my computer and i dont know what to do. It just randomly appeared and says i have some W32.Myzor.@fy virus spyware thingy…But all of the warning are so fake i think the thing making the warnings is the VIRUS?

HELP!!!!!!!!

Answer by jibbarjabar
There is no such “real” W32.Myzor@yf virus. That warning is fake. It is a scam to attempt to get you to purchase a rogue malware removal product. The balloon about “Your computer is infected” or “System Alert”, is always false, phony and fradulant. The actual trojan that has caused your problem is no doubt one of the hundreds (now in the thousands)of varients of what is commonly called “Zlob”.

Your computer is indeed infected. This infection is called Smitfraud and it will give you phony scam virus warnings( and often redirect you to a site selling a bogus anti virus product), trying to sell you junk such asPest Capture, Pest Trap, Virus Burst, Spyware Quake and other non working anti virus apps.

Information and proceduresand a free removal tool for the removal of Smitfraud are here:

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php

Most “All-Purpose” malware apps such as AVG, Norton, Spybot etc unforturnatly can not remove this vile pest called Smitfraud.

Good luck
