Just got a brand new UK 2004 dated CD, which has a list of playability on various types of device, and implies that copy protection is in place. It does not say XCP so I guess the rootkit problem doesn’t apply, but what the heck are they using now? My work PC will not play it. It’s a BMG / RCA label.
Good info guys, thanks. I’m only interested in playing the CD in a PC at the mo, not ripping it to MP3 or copying, but I’m worried about what sneakware I may be putting in my PC by playing it.

Is there a product for that? I know I need to get a protection software and was considering AVG Internet Security 2012, but it’s simply for protection and such things. But should I not remove all malware from my PC first before getting that? Thanks.

It takes 4 minutes to boot up PC so maybe I am duplicating protection programs or am being paranoid with too many!. Also, do they take up too much working memory. Any guidance appreciated.

I am having problems with my security. I get protection through BT broadband, but my PC came with security and I installed some before I was with BT. Can I remove any traces of security which shouldn’t be there without affecting my BT security??

every thing else appears to work fine but get "windows explorer has to close down due to an error" regularly
When I type gpedit.msc I am told windows cannot find the route (my windows version is in spanish). I have just found out that i can’t even open "search" or "my pc" without getting a protection error. !help!

I’ve not installed the Norton CD yet cos was told it can slow down the system. I was recommended to download AVG (free) from the internet. I’ve used that before and thought it was okay but surely paying over £50 for the Norton CD would better protect my system?
What do you think ….. Have you had any problems with either one? Or, can you recommend anything better to use?
Thanks
I’m still not sure what to do, or which AVP to go with, but am learning and really appreciative of all your comments and advice.
BTW I’ve not thumbed down anyone.
Thanks all

McAfee is preloaded on our notebook free for two months. When the free time runs out how much protection do we need. I propose Avast + PC Doctor Firewall + Spybot S&D with Malwarebytes Anti Malware as a back-up to run once per week. Any other suggestions or tweeks?
Thank you for your advice in advance
My router has a built in firewall

I want to make sure that my kids can surf safely but also protect my pc from malware by an accidental click. My eldest is quite careful, but my youngest tends to get very "trigger happy"
So how can i have proper parental control and malware protection at the same time ?
