a couple of years ago my step mom adopted my brother becausemy dad died and she didnt want him going to my bio mom. she had me sign as his adult next friend, telling me that it could be reversed and that otherwise he would have to go into social services. i couldnt afford the legal fees to adopt him, much less many other things that would enrich his life, so i signed, thinking this was his best interest. since my father died, she has become verbally abusive and hes confided that he wants to run away. she does nothing for his care but spend his social security check. he is 13 and manages his own meals, his own life, while she lives out of her bedroom. ive recently moved in to "help" but she doesnt even hide her verbal attacks on him from me, much less any guests, embarrassing him and chastizing him at any given chance. im trying my best for his psychological wellbeing, but this was a terrible mistake. do i have any options?
